Absolutely! Expressive Arts Therapy is not about the finished product, it is entirely about the process and what your art says to you. Meaning, the focus is on your emotional and physical state while you create your art, how you feel afterwards, and what meaning your piece holds for you—not on the visual aesthetic of what you create. Of course, dynamic, often “beautiful” art can (and often does) result from a session, as you are expressing deep parts of yourself and that can be visually stunning, but how something “looks” is not the point.
Yes! I would be happy to facilitate sessions in the individual rooms or common areas of nursing homes, memory care facilities, and the like. These sessions can be weekly or bi-weekly. *Please note, only virtual sessions are available at this time.
I’m sorry, I am not able to accept insurance at this time.
I accept Paypal, Venmo and Zelle, and work on a sliding scale. Please contact me for information on rates.
Yes! I am available for single sessions or workshops but much prefer weekly or bi-weekly sessions with clients, as the benefits of this type of deep, inner work tend to be cumulative. However, single sessions or workshops can be very powerful.
I work with all ages, but find the expressive arts to be most effective for people ages 5 and up. I love working with elders as well…it is never too late (or too early!) to discover your cargo.
Absolutely! For in-person sessions, there is no need to worry about having any art supplies available. I am essentially a “traveling art studio” and will come stocked with everything we need.
*Please note, currently, all sessions are virtual. For virtual sessions, I ask that you have some basic art materials on-hand, such as paper and markers, colored pencils, and/or paints. Collage materials like magazines or old cards or newspapers may be useful too. We will always discuss what is needed before your appointment and materials do not need to be pricey or elaborate—we will work with what you have!
For both in-person and virtual sessions, I suggest that you simply wear something comfortable that you can move in, should we decide to incorporate movement into our session. I have aprons available for art-making, but the occasional drop of paint or clay may end up on your clothing so dress accordingly!
Yes! I am a licensed psychotherapist in the state of New Mexico and an licensed associate therapist in Washington State, which means that only clients residing in the states of New Mexico and Washington can receive clinical therapy services. For those residing in other states or countries, our work together will not be considered traditional psychotherapy— I will not be “diagnosing” or billing insurance—but rather, we will be engaging in therapeutic expressive arts. *What is Expressive Arts Therapy?
